Happy Mothers Day Emmy-Lou!

For a little over 4 months now, I have watched my beautiful wife become an exceptional mother of my twin girls. Emmy is my motivation to get out of bed to feed them at 2 am (pointy elbows), my infant safety compass (both buckles done up in the swing) and my resident cloth diaper guru. Without her the three of us would be in rough shape. Hazel, Finley, Honey and myself are blessed beyond words to have you in our lives. Happy Mothers Day!

Kim Matt and Morgan – Maternity and Newborn Portrait Session

We were so excited this past fall when Kim emailed us to ask that we do a maternity and newborn portrait session for the arrival of their son Morgan. Kim and Matt are the couple behind Still Life for Him/Her and may be credited with making us Victorians look that much cooler when we walk out of their shops. They are also a really incredible nice couple that we are really glad to now call our friends. For their maternity session we photographed them in their home with their four legged furry children who were excited but not totally aware of the change that was about to arrive. Morgan came in early winter and you can tell from these images how in love with him Matt and Kim are. This baby session was captured just a few weeks before our own babies arrived and I felt so honoured to be able to make these images of some of their early days together for them to keep. Tese babies grow and change so so fast. They have so much personality from the first day. I love the little bit of attitude in Morgan’s expression in one of the first images I captured – hmmm who are you and what is that giant thing you are holding over me! These babies grow and change so so fast. You blink and they are twice the size! Morgan will never be this little again – except in these photographs. We are looking forward to lots of fun in the future with Morgan and our girls.

Starling Lane Winery Wedding Ceremony and Reception

We love shooting Starling Lane Winery Weddings! Over two years ago I checked my email to find about five messages from Amy telling me she was getting married and hoped we had her date available. She wasn’t sure the message was going through on her phone so she sent it a few more times. She really wanted to make sure we were free. As it was over 18 months before her date we were so glad that she was planning early and we were so excited that Amy and Nick wanted us there for their day. The we just had to wait over a year and half for it to happen! We had photographed these two once before at Dusty and Jess’ wedding a couple of years ago and we were so looking forward to another Tweedhope family wedding. This pretty wedding happened on a sunny day last July at Starling Lane Winery and was a truly creative DIY event. Amy put her talents to work and made paper bridesmaids bouquets, burlap bunting, lace wrapped vintage bottles, little fabric hearts, all the guys boutonnieres, her veil and fascinator, and so so much more. Verbena Floral Design incorporated Amy’s paper flowers into her bouquet and added blooms from Starling Lane’s garden for the bud vases. After dinner the late summer sun was capped off with smores. Amy & Nick wanted their first dance to be just the two of them so we plugged in an ipod in the greenhouse and they had a few minutes to themselves as the sun went down. This wedding had such a chill summer day garden party feel – so perfect for these two. We are so happy to have been there to capture this day!

Hazel & Finley

Hello friends we’ve missed you! Well this little blog has been a bit neglected lately hasn’t it! We can’t really apologize as we have had two incredibly good reasons for not having time to keep it up – they go by the names of Hazel and Finley! I don’t know if we have the words for how much we love these two. We waited fro them for a while and they arrived in early January and now our lives are forever altered. As any new parent knows these first few weeks have been a haze of bliss mixed with sleep deprivation, some loud babies at unheard of hours of the night, moments of hilarity, and of course just happiness. I did a little portrait session with my two girls when they were two weeks old. Nothing too fancy just them. The first few images are of Finley our litle firecracker or as I call her my little chicken. She can be squawky when she wants to be and we know that in life she will definitely be able to stand up for herself. She has a favourite photo up on the wall that Aaron took of crashing waves at the beach and she stares at it everyday – we can’t wait to take her there. Wee Hazel who loves to sit and watch the world around her with her wide little eyes. Although she is quieter we’ve noticed a little stubborn streak – the silent but determined type. She’s been the first to smile at us and Finley the first to make small talk. We really can’t wait to see who they each grow into. For you newborn photog friends wee Hazel posed her hands herself – not lying! I know there will be here a lot more of them on this blog in the future but here are just a few for now. Merry Christmas!!

We just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. This year was a very busy one for us with amazing clients, beautiful weddings, and now our impending little family!! We are so so thankful to those who have supported us and EA Photography this year – every little blog comment, thank-you note, and referral really means so much to us. Emmy will be taking some time off from shooting in the New Year but Aaron will be available so please do contact us if you are interested in any of our sessions and we are available for remaining wedding dates in 2013. Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a big day in Em’s family. It is a big day for many families but the story of my grandparents meeting at an Air Force training base in Ontario and my Grandpa’s role as a Lancaster bomber pilot is a well known narrative. They are both veteran’s as Gram served at home and Grandpa overseas. When his plane was shot down over German occupied France he and his crew were taken in by the local french resistance movement and my Grandpa was hidden in the Freteval forest in france until tat area of France was liberated. My family, mostly Grandpa and my uncle, have done a lot of research on his time in France and located people from the town of Chateaudun who were able to locate his crash site. This past September my dad travelled there with his sisters and were welcomed by a near overwhelming reception in honour of the members of my Grandpa’s flight crew. They met people instrumental in leading members of the crew to safety and risked their own lives by hiding and assisting them in a German occupied area. They visited a small museum display where items had been collected from the crash site and Dad located the D ring from the pull on my Grandpa’s parachute. This little piece of metal that was his lifeline in a moment. He was able to bring it back home and give to my Grandpa. Last year Aaron and I travelled out to Ontario and I got to spend remembrance Day with my Grandparents. The night before I noticed my Grandpa in his room looking at one of his WWII Air Force books. I crawled down the hall with my camera and as quietly as possible without disturbing the moment caught my Grandpa in the moment of reflection. It is one of my favourite photographs. The war is still with him everyday. Today he and Grandma are at the national monument in Ottawa attending the remembrance day ceremony. If you have a veteran in your family call them today and thank them because their sacrifice has a life long result.

E&A x2!!!!

So some big news has been growing around here lately. Extra big actually because in January we are doubling the population of our little abode with the arrival of twin girls!!! We are so excited and feeling so blessed to be having two but also naturally a bit nervous of the big change that is coming. We won’t be booking sessions from mid December until February but Aaron will be available when I am not as he will be home full time too! We were out for a little walk the other day, looking for some mushrooms and letting Honey have a run around the forest and Aaron took a couple of pictures. What kind of news is this without some images! So here I am with the two little stinkers on board!

Heather & Joel : All the Reception Details

So here it is – part 2 of Heather and Joel’s very cool wedding at their family property in Yellow Point BC. If you missed part 1 click the link as you don’t want to miss it! Tam from Blue Lily Events and Tina from Platinum Floral Design really outdid themselves on this one! There were outdoor vintage living rooms, a s’more bar by the campfire, lights illuminating the trees all around the meadow, and even an impeccably styled 1980′s themed video game den!!! Remember – these two met as video game developers and Joel proposed by creating a world in the game MineCraft. So the video game theme had to carry through to the wedding with a mine craft inspired wedding cake and this beautifully tacky living room was a huge hit from the floral brown couch – my parents had one almost the same! – to the wood case tv, orange bubble glass lamp, and even the carnation and roses floral arrangement. And it wouldn’t be complete without an original nintendo and sega system! This wedding was just cool all day long. Truffles catered the many dished of finger food and friends dj’d as some serious dancers cut a rug on the lawn. And as if all of this wasn’t already completely perfect Joel’s dad surprised everyone with a huge firework display out on the water!! About 10 minutes before the skies lit up Joel had said to a friend how he wished he had bought a few fireworks…. his dad knows him well! It was a perfect summer day and one of the most unique and fun weddings we have witnessed. This kind of day really reminds us how great it is when couples are really themselves on their wedding day and these two had their mine craft cake and ate it to! We are so glad to have been a part of this day and so grateful for all of the hard work that the friends, family and wedding vendors put in to pull it off. Heather & Joel – Yellow Point Wedding

Oh where to begin with this one! So what happens when two video game developers meet, fall in love and decide to get married at the groom’s family cabin on Yellowpoint? One heck of a beautiful and unique day! When we first met with Heather and Joel we were immediately excited about their day. Joel loves his family’s old cabin filled with so many past memories and the waterfront field of arbutus and gary oak was where they planned on having their day. They wanted it to be fun and casual but still a wedding just with a lot of their own style. Doing things their way started with the proposal – it got a lot of attention, even from Jimmy Fallon, when Joel posted the video of Heather working her way through a level of the game Minecraft that Joel had built just for her. You can see it here. In the end the wedding involved the Yellow Point property Joel loved and the one next door with his parents dream retirement home which meant we had a whole bay on the ocean with gorgeous gardens and a natural meadow all to ourselves. This really was a day with close family and friends: a vintage tie from Joel’s Grandpa, special signs carved just for them, a handmade swing from Joel’s brother, and in post #2 yet to come a super amazing surprise from Joel’s dad (you’ll have to come back to see that!) So here is part one of Joel and Heather’s day – come back for part 2 to see the ridiculously cool outdoor setting created by Tam of Blue Lily Events Planning which even included an ’80′s themed video game living room! Thanks to Heather and Joel for creating a day so unique to you – it was an incredibly fun day to photograph.
